Why did Firefox mess with me?

               2.0.0.6 for Windows,Mac,Linux

Question:OK, I was on a web site that wanted me to download the latest Firefox, so I did. Then I got a screen where the "finish" button was inoperative, the X in the upper right corner was inoperative, and the only way I could get rid of the [expletive deleted] was to reboot. So I did. Then when I had my computer up again, I clicked on the Firefox desktop icon, and bingo: back to the page I couldn't get rid of!

So I got mad and uninstalled it. But the end of the uninstall program said "tell us what you thought of Firefox." I clicked that, all prepared to tell them. Exactly what I thought of this won't go away routine. Bingo! Another "won't go away" right in front of the screen for the comments, and . . . why do they do that?

It was some promo about Google, I think. Is that why?

Answers:
sorry, buddy, looks like you got a virus, shouldnt be too serious, but run your spyware killer and antivirus and it should recognize it as such and get rid of it for you. lots of spyware and viruses are out there and a lot are dressed up as legit items... so be careful

Gosh, I've been using FF since way back when, and never, ever had any such problems, not even in the very early beta stages (only when testing nightlies -those are half-baked releases for developers). Never download anything from weird or suspicious sites. If you want to download FF just go to the only official site, http://www.mozilla.com/en-us/firefox/...
It sounds like one of two things happened.

A) You may have been installing the testing version of Firefox 3, which inevitably will have lots of bugs and problems for people since it isn't finished for real release.
B) You may have been "installing Firefox" from a dangerous website and have actually installed some sort of virus or malware instead.

Either way I would make sure Firefox is uninstalled all the way, run a virus scanm restart, virus scan again, and then go to mozilla.com and get Firefox 2 from there.
Where did you get firefox from, it sounds like you got a spyware infected one. By the way if a screen comes up you can't close, you don't need to reboot you just need to ctrl+alt+del and then end task on that window.
http://www.getfirefox.com is the place to get it from.
