Hello,
My name is Rick and I am a Dell Customer Advocate. I am not sure what OS you are running but Vista has a separate audio control for most different apps. If you are running Vista have IE or Firefox open and go into your volume control and see if the volume is either low or muted for IE, I ran across the same issue when Vista decided to give YouTube its own audio control and it was super quiet.

Hope that works for you.

did you check the IE/firefox multimedia options?

in IE (with it open) tools/options/advanced/multime...
in firefox (again, with it open) tools/options/content/manage file types

if those dont work.. perhpas you got infected with spyware/malware or a virus that your AV didnt catch.. or both IE and firefox are corrupted.. IE 7.0.5730.11 and firefox 2.0.0.4 are the most recent versions that im aware of
