Download trouble...?

I don't understand. I can download programs off of Firefox, but when I try to open things such as setup installers that require an internet connection they won't connect. It says unable to connect or something like that. Also, my internet explorer doesn't connect at all. Does anybody know why this is? Is something wrong with my internet settings? How can I fix them? Thanks.

Answers:
Go to your Internet Options under TOOLS. Go to Security tab and make sure your internet security is set to MEDIUM.

You might have a firewall thats blocking access. You might want to check your firewall settings and allow certain programs to connect to your ISP.

Check your firewall software - sounds like it is denying everything except FireFox.
Are you using any download manager? If so, this is causing the problem as many sites do not allow download through any Download manager.
It might be the modem. Or maybe you should try again and reset your computer.
