My favorites are a vital part of my work. Besides retrieving them, is there any way to avoid loosing them again ? Anyway to save them ? HELP please and thanks in advance.

Download a software named 'drive rescue' from download.com & it will help you in retrieve ur favourites and make a copy of favourites so that they can be recovered in future.
You can also use System Restore if you use Windows Xp, Windows 2003 or Windows Vista.
Try system restore........ restore to a date before the info was lost. Once you get them back, save them to a file in "my documents"
As long as your recycle bin hasn't been emptied you can get them back.

Can't you find them back in you trashbin, if you can you should set your favorites onto your desktop, or put them on a cd, you need back-up for most things you do on your pc, much saver you know!
Try reading about the Windows "system restore" options under Start, Help. That allows you to go back in time to the last copy of your operating system condition before she played that dirty trick on you.
As said , system restore will get them back. There are several extensions that will back them up for you but I use this freeware:

It will back up your entire user profile so not only bookmarks, but if you lose extensions or have a crash you can restore the entire profile.
If you use yahoo toolbar for firefox, you can add the bookmarks button to the toolbar. Then you can import your bookmarks to yahoo bookmarks and access the same bookmarks from any computer (work, home, laptop, etc.) Pretty neat. And you don't have to worry about backups.
