If most people used an ad-blocker, how could the Internet survive?

First off, I use an adblocker (Adblock Plus with Firefox), and block any images, banner ads, and pop-ups that I don't like.

But I was thinking, what if, let's say, Dell decided to bundle all their computers with Firefox and Adblock, since it's so popular. How would free sites, most of which are dependent on advertising revenue, be able to cope? Sure, some could switch to a pay model, but we're so used to a free Internet, would we be willing to transition?

So, do you use an ad-blocker? In your opinion, are ads an annoying prescence like mosquitoes, or are they a necessary evil to keep the Internet running? What about the risk of adware and spyware?

Answers:
I dont want a commercial Internet to begin with. Look at Wikipedia.

Plus, many big companies get paid by you and I for the Internet already: it is called access fees, cable, DSL, dial-up, phone line, router, modem hardware, PC etc costs

As such, perhaps the providers can share the profits with content providers because without content no one would want access.

I use ad-blocker and it is so nice not to see any pop ups.I still see advertisements on the web pages I visit..so I see no money lost.
Yes I use an ad blocker.
Ads do not support the Internet! They support the site and person that developed that Ad.
The Internet would continue on nicely with Ad's banners, pop-up's, spy-ware and such.
This is not problem, because all popup ads is migrating to Layer Ads.

Then the Popads will not work anymore ... and the only use is block usefull windows...

and Layer Ads is much worst than popup... because the Close button can be hidden, and you be forced to view for ever the layer Ads
they should think other option!
