Is Mozilla Firefox really faster than Microsoft's Internet Explorer?

Is it also true that Firefox also has the capability of filtering out more spam and adware/spyware than Internet Explorer?

Answers:
This depends on what you have set for options. Generally, IE is faster. But FireFox ROCKS for providing some anti-spyware protection.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster

umm... not in my opinion.. lol
Firefox is faster than IE. At times, it's even faster than aol broadband. I don't know about spam, because my main address is on aol.
yes it does but it is not faster
i recomend you netscape, firefox it has a lot of bugs and incompatible with a lot of sites, like the yahoo mail beta
My experience is Firefox is much much much faster than Internet Explorer by default. IE can be tweaked to make it faster.

Haven't noticed the filtering you mention however since Firefox is not yet as well known it is nowhere as big a target as IE and therefore is much less risky to run.

I am using Firefox now and do about 90% of the time. YAY!
I have both, and I usually find that Mozilla is faster and does filter out more crap. But I like IE because it has features that mozilla doesn't. it is a matter of preference. Try them both and see what you think!
Probable in this order 1-Opera 2-Firefox 3-IE &the spam part is governed by your settings.
Mabe you should go here and read this site to decide for yourself.

Firefox is a bit faster for me than IE. But thats not the reason why i chose to use firefox. Firefox is more secure than ie. An example would be me visiting a site and some members complain of being infected with constant advertisement pop ups etc. Everyone who said they were infected were IE users. The rest were non IE users.

There are plenty of useful extensions in firefox - adblock is one of them.

In the old days, not a lot of sites support Firefox. However these days, they do [not 100% of sites maybe 95%]. I've certainly never had to worry about this anyway.

Everyone i've recommended to use firefox has stuck with it. You should just try it out and decide yourself.

Just remember that millions who do use firefox cant be wrong ;) We dont even get paid for it lol.
[edit] By the way, if you want both your IE and Firefox in the same browser window, try out PCman's IE Tab extension for Firefox (just search it at the extensions website). It crashes sometimes, but it is very convenient for those times where the net forces you to use IE.

Well, actually, no. According to the FirefoxMyths.com website,

"Internet Explorer 6.x is clearly faster than Firefox 1.x in 6 out of 7 measures of performance and is significantly faster from a cold start." and apparently IE7 is also faster than Firefox.

But there is a reason I use Firefox.

Tabbed browsing aside, it has many good extensions that *can* help you filter out adware/spyware. As for spam, you'll have to depend on your email program's spam filter to kick out your spam.

You can try http://addons.mozilla.org and search for "Adblock" or other security-related extensions (categories are in the sidebar for navigation) and install them if you feel you like them.
Go to a reputable source such as secunia.com, you will see that Firefox is not perfect, but it is much more secure than Internet Explorer (however Opera is the most secure). Be sure and compare patched and unpatched holes, then the critical ratings of the holes of each browser.
Mr oddball has a link that takes you to a source that's not reputable, I suggest that you stick to the untouched original source.
If you want to you can check out my other link and see how Mr oddball's site used copy and pasting to "customize" his site to make Firefox look bad.
Firefox 1.0 was faster than IE 6 on every measurement but startup speed. Firefox can't compete on startup speed with IE 6 because IE is woven into your OS like the mutant virus is it so IE is always running. Firefox 1.5 is even faster than 1.0. I'm not aware of any performance tests between Firefox and IE 7, but I'm sure there are some out there.

Firefox is DEFINITELY more secure than IE. I've been surfing almost exclusively with Firefox the past few years and I have NEVER been infected with adware or spyware. Never. XP sp2 was a step in the right direction, and IE7 continues the progress towards better security, but bluntly, I trust the Firefox browser and the people at Mozilla significantly more than I trust Microsoft.

Do *you* trust Microsoft?
