What would you reccomend as a better web browser? Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Answers:
There is a question?

Except for spread virus infections there isn't anything I am aware of that IE does that Firefox doesn't do.

Firefox does quite a few things even the new IE doesn't. What makes this even more of a difference is that Firefox is open source so there is a whole legion of programmers out there extending Firefox's functionality. There are literally hundreds of Firefox plugins to do things people do. Even things I'd never have pictured somebody doing with a web browser.

Firefox is faster.

Firefox is more secure.

When you update Firefox, if something goes wrong your whole computer isn't at risk of crashing.

IE still looks like the old Netscape. Early versions of IE even ripped off the logo changing it only slightly.

Firefox is a center for inovation. IE is FINALLY getting around to putting out a tabbed version. An inovation that's been in other broswers for years. IE caught up with Netscape finally and more from pressure from Microsoft on ISPs and hardware vendors than from choice became the top browser. It never did so on pure merit. At it's peak IE never had better features, security or speed than other browsers. IE will be updated only enough to keep usage up. Who wants a browser made with that attitude? Do you think of yourself as only good enough to be paid attention too when you scream bloody murder? Don't you think you are worth more attention than that?

Firefox uses open standards. So what works in one version of Firefox will work in the next. Only through long term evolution of standards will backward compatability be dropped. When you do a proffesional site you have to write 3 or 4 versions of it most of the time. One for most browsers. One for IE version X, one for IE version 1 before X and if you support the version of IE before that yet another version. In short using IE is to subscribe to a ping pong ball that careens all over the place without logic or reason. It makes web developers life hell and for no reason. Microsoft helped develop many of those standards that they then just ignore when writing IE.

When you use Firefox you can be pretty confident you are using only a web browser. With IE who knows. Microsoft won't open the source so you cannot customize it to your needs. Cannot be sure that your web browser isnt also inventorying your software, using encryption schemes that have Gov or Microsoft back doors, intentionally intefering with your use of certain sites and a host of other things that Microsoft is known to do already.

Microsoft supports the use of DRM. Even went as far as saying Linux would not make it because Linux refuses to support DRM measures. This means IE may well have features that if switched on will prevent you from downloading files whether or not you have a legal right to download that copywrited material or if it only apepars to be copywrited but isn't. If you do not believe in DRM and it's restrictions on music, movies, art, articles and other copywrited material, then every website you visit using IE is a vote against something you believe in. Use IE and you support DRM.

So again I ask, who in their right mind would choose IE over Firefox?

Firefox all the way... what i am using right now

WAY less pop-ups
I use opera....its brilliant
Internet Explorer
Firefox, Netscape, Mozilla. All are better than IE

DOWN WITH MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!
Firefox for sure. No integration with the operating system means less potential for highly destructive malware. Also, I'm opposed to Microsoft's anti-competitive practices, so I use Firefox to stick it to the man.
Firefox
Firefox is good because it has tabbed browsing and the integrated search engine, but Internet Explorer 7 will have both of these when it comes out. I suggest going with Firefox for now, then getting the new IE when it comes out and seeing which one you prefer.
Firefox all the way. There is nothing firefox cant do that IE can do. Even microsoft updates are available with the right plugins.
Firefox. No pop-ups or spywear downloaded onto your pc and they transfer over your bookmarks very easily.
Firefox
Netscape is the best.
internet explorer 7 is far better and secure than firefox
IE still has over 80% of market share while firefox has <10%. So while firefox is better, you gotta watch out that web developers out there might tend to support IE more. This is important because the trend is toward heavier client side scripting (ie AJAX) and the same piece of javascript doesn't work in every browser. So under limited resources, websites might be able to support the most popular browser only which is IE currently.
