If you're on a Windows PC, then you've already got IE installed (make sure you are running IE 6 though). Since it's 90% market share, almost everything works with it, including things like streaming media and other ActiveX-style plugins. Firefox is newer and has some cool features. Since it's growing fast and is based on W3C standards, most sites support it. Sometimes you run into a site that doesn't work right in Firefox because they made some assumptions on IE. I've also had some problems getting streaming media to work as well on Firefox as on IE. Since Firefox is open-source, you find a lot of people developing plug-ins and other add-ons for it.
